My husband is staying at a local nursing home but I still live at home with my son and his kids. Can I get a reverse mortgage on my home?

The answer to this depends on who is listed on the title to the property. If both you and your spouse are documented as the homeowners, you are 62 years or older and your home is not deeply in debt, then it is likely you will qualify. One of our requirements is that the property must be the main residence of the titled homeowner, so as long as you remain in the home, your reverse mortgage will be valid. In this circumstance, if you should pass away before your spouse, as they do not live in the property, your loan will become due and the remainder of the equity will be passed to your family. If you are not documented as the property owner, but your spouse is, then you could discuss moving the property title to your name in order to qualify for a reverse mortgage.
